Sanjiv “Sam” Gambhir, MD, PhD

Someday doctors will be able to use Star Trek-like scanners during physical exams, detecting diseases like cancer months or years earlier than we can today. Sanjiv “Sam” Gambhir, MD, PhD, has developed some of these techniques, several of which are currently in use in hospitals. He is chairman of the Department of Radiology, the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig Professor for clinical investigation in cancer research, the director of the Molecular Imaging Program, and the director of the Canary Center at Stanford for Early Detection.
